Plant glitch cuts output at biggest Dominican gold mine

Santo Domingo.- DominicanRepublic´s biggest gold mine on Monday said the oxygen plant at Pueblo Viejo isoffline temporarily, which affects its production.

Barrick Pueblo ViejoCorp. said it´s sending two of the plant´s three motors to the United States forrepairs, after experiencing a technical fault Thursday. It said the plant iskey in the autoclaves process, which produces the gold and silver ore known asdore.

In a press release, Barricksaid it investigates the cause behind the outage. “For now, the autoclaves continue to operate, but with asignificantly reduced production.”

The miner added that ittakes the necessary steps for the autoclaves to return to full capacity as soonas possible. “It´s estimated that by mid-January the repair process would becomplete and all units will be back in service.”
