October repatriations of Haitians jump 33%: Haitilibre

Santo Doming- Outlet Haitilibre.comon Friday reports a jump in the number of undocumented Haitians repatriated in Octoberby the Dominican Republic, for a total of 8,602, with 4,344 returnees and 4,258voluntarily returned to their country.

It said the Haitians livedmostly in Barahona, Santiago, Montecristi and San Juan de la Maguana. “This isa significant increase of over 33% compared to the month of September 2015 when6,425 illegal Haitian migrants returned, registering 3,372 returnees and 3,053voluntary returns, representing 14,027 Haitians for these two months.”

According to theoutlet, the Returnees and Refugees Support Group (GAAR), the Jesuit Migrants Service(SJM), the Jeannot Succès Border Network (RFJS) and the InternationalOrganization for Migration (IOM) assist the returnees with transport into Haitifrom the three official border points: Ouanaminthe/Dajabón, Malpasse/Jimani andBelladère/Elias Piña.

“The GARR which dailyprovides humanitarian assistance to returnees from the Dominican Republic,urges the Haitian and Dominican authorities to make every effort to ensure thatthe repatriation operations are carried out with respect for human rights andthe Memorandum of Understanding of December 2, 1999,” Haitilibre said.
