Presidential candidate slams Dominican Govt. indifference to poverty

Dominican Republic.- The presidential candidate of a coalition of minorityspoke on Thursday condemned the government indifference to Dominican Republic´snagging poverty.

Minou Tavarez Mirabal saidthe country has one of Latin America´s highest levels of inequality and reiteratedthe need to work to build a society based no democracy and the law.

“Our country´s history hasbeen marked by bloody and shameful human rights violations but also by examplesof rebellion, struggle and commitment to full respect for rights and socialjustice, that mark I carry with me,” said the also independent deputy to markWorld Human Rights Day.

“In my condition ofwoman and politician, aspiring to preside over the destiny of my country, Iconsider it a timely opportunity to reiterate our commitment and the need thatthe Dominican Republic can boast our Constitution and becomes a truly democraticand a social state of the law."
