Barrick´s Dominican gold mine wins top exporter award

Santo Domingo.- BarrickPueblo Viejo Corp. on Tuesday won the Dominican Exporters Association´s (ADOEXPO)Dominican Export Excellence award, which recognizes companies that by having adaptedto globalization, have spurred exports with higheer added value, innovation andtechnologic advances.

Barrick Pueblo Viejo presidentManuel Rocha received the award in the category Grand Dominican Exporter and thankedADOEXPO, noting that the prize bolsters the company´s commitment to thecountry’s economic growth through exports and especially sustainability.

“With this award wereaffirm our interest in contributing to the Dominican Republic´s economic andsocial growth through a sustainable operation with high safety standards, whichrespects the environment and maintains a constant dialogue with the neighboringcommunities," Rocha said.

For ADOEXPO presidentSadhala Khoury, the annual event is important as an instrument to spur economicgrowth, by recognizing companies that have managed to conquer internationalmarkets, with effort, dedication and talent.

Awards

Around 22 companieswere nominated in the various categories including the Grand Dominican Exporter,Export Excellence, Industrial Excellence, Agro Industrial Exports, AgriculturalExports and Free Zones.

Barrick Pueblo Viejo´s exportstopped US$1.6 billion last year, when it extracted 1,128 ounces of gold and 3,580ounces of silver, making it Dominican Republic´s leading exporter.
