Foreign Ministry holds meeting to discuss border situation

Independencia, DR.– The Foreign Ministry held Saturday a working meeting in the Independencia province with the local authorities of civil society, aimed at analyzing the situation on the Dominican-Haitian border.

The meeting, headed by Foreign Minister Andres Navarro, dealt also with the economic and social reality that the inhabitants of that province have to face.

"We can not speak of an effective and positive bilateral relations with our Haitian neighbors if the Foreign Ministry has no permanent presence in these southern districts," minister Navarro said.

He added that this border area has implications on human rights issues, trade, migration, health and education. The meeting took place at the Dominican Border Security (Cesfront) headquarters.
