Medina’s visit to beleaguered ex leader slams smear campaign

Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina’s visit to former president Leonel Fernández pummeled the smear campaign against the latter, cleared doubts and debunks speculation that the chief executive’s closest collaborators and reelection promoters took part in the effort seeks to a derail Fernandez’s possible bid for 2016.

Fernandez, who’s also president of the ruling PLD party held a the meeting in an ambiance local media describe as relaxed and smiling, aimed at signaling party unity leading to the 2016 elections.

Fernández blamed transnational drug trafficking for the smear campaign against him, in an alleged reprisal for the stance his administrations had taken to confront and extradite drug traffickers.
