Dominicans breeze past Cubans in Caribbean Series, AP

San Juan, Puerto Rico.- Dominican Republic beat Cuba 6-1 in the Caribbean Series on Tuesday, led by Pittsburgh Pirates prospect Willy Garcia’s two-run hit and a homer, AP reports.

Garcia homered for the Dominican Republic in the sixth off reliever Jonder Martinez in the tournament opener, where Cuba (0-2) returned to the Caribbean Series in 2014 after a 53-year absence, going 1-3 last year in Venezuela.

Righty Dominican starter Rafael Perez pitched 5 1/3 shutout innings, allowed six hits and struck out one, with no walks.
