Estrella makes Dominican tennis history in Ecuador

Quito, Ecuador.- The country’s top tennis player Victor Estrella on Sunday made Dominican tennis history, beating Feliciano Lopez 6-2, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5), in the Quito Open final, his career’s first major title.

It took Estrella 2 and 17 minutes to defeat Lopez on clay in the final held in Quito, from where the Dominican Tennis Federation (Fedotenis) tweeted congratulations.

The title ratchets Estrella’s world rank to 44th as of today Monday and his win is even sweeter since Lopez figures among the world’s 15 top seeds.
