Dominican Customs chief gets big bucks; workers earn peanuts: El Dia

Santo Domingo.- While the head of Dominican Republic’s Customs Agency pockets a cool RD$687,500 (US$15,200) per month, most of its employees earn wages of misery as low as RD$10,000 monthly.

Outlet eldia.com.do reports that the Customs’ payroll posted on its website shows that only a small group of senior officials and its director get lavish salaries and perks.

The Agency’s official information shows director Juan Fernando Fernández Cedeño’s surprising monthly salary, as well as those of the deputy directors William Espinosa Burgos, Ruth Méndez Núñez, Leticia Cotorreal Peña and Gabino José Polanco are paid RD$284,625 per month each.

“While different departmental directors earn more than 150 thousand pesos salary, that reality isn’t conveyed to the majority of the Customs’ employees, including inspectors, warehouse managers and security, who earn from RD$10,000 to RD$20,000,” the outlet said.
