A 4.7 quake shakes south coast

Santo Domingo.- The Santo Domingo State University (UASD) Seismology Institute reported a 4.7 magnitude quake Friday afternoon, 18.5 kilometers from Palmar de Ocoa (south) in the Caribbean Sea.

Seismologist Andres Moreta said the quake that struck at 2:13pm was five kilometers deep, with epicenter on 18.14 north latitude and 70.65 west longitude.

He said the quake was felt in Santo Domingo, specifically in the Las Americas airport control tower, but no damage has been reported.
