Rica Foundation, Major Leagues host annual baseball tourney

Villa Altagracia, Dominican Republic.- La Rica Foundation and Major League Baseball (MLB) held their 6th annual RBI Baseball Tournament as part of a program to revive baseball, this year dedicated to Carmen M. Brache de Rios.

In 2010 Rica Foundation and MLB agreed to train 220 youngsters aged 12 to 18 during 10 years in three categories and 12 teams in the town of Basima, Villa Altagracia (central) at a cost of RD$20.0 million.

“The success of the RBI program lies in making these boys have the necessary basis for a safe and promising future which can only be achieved through education, Brache said in the keynote speech.

The teams Boston Red Sox, Seattle Mariners, Tampa Bay Bucs, Philadelphia Phillies, among others have signed eight youngsters since the agreement took effect.
