Dominican Republic has a new opposition leader

Santo Domingo.- As the latest surveys predicted, Luis Abinader pm Sunday won the 2016 presidential nomination for Dominican Republic’s biggest opposition party (PRM) with 70.53 percent of the vote over former president Hipólito Mejía’s 28.05%.

Convention Organizing Committee president Milagros Ortiz Bosch said most of the polling results have been tallied.

Speaking to cheering supporters in his campaign headquarters in the Urbanizacion Fernández sector early Monday, Abinader called the process a feast of democracy and said he’s ready to face any candidate chosen by the ruling party, PLD.

"The Dominican Republic and democracy won today. A healthy, modern and strong PRM surges to seek the victory," the now PRM candidate said.
