Agents arrest Colombian with US$814,300 in cash

Santo Domingo.- National Drugs Control Agency-DNCD- on Monday arrested a Colombian in Las Americas International Airport, when he was about to board a flight with his family to his country with US$814,300 in cash hidden in garments in a double bottom suitcase.

The suspect was escorted to Agency headquarters in Santo Domingo, while his wife and two children were released, since the money was in two bags labeled with name.

The DNCD said a preliminary investigation found that the cash could be payment for a drug transaction, from the Medellin Cartel.

It said the Colombian arrived with his family Wednesday and stayed in a Colonial Zone hotel, and once here, another countryman gave him the money to take it to their country.
