American Airlines vacations programs reach merger milestone

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic – American Airlines will reach a merger milestone on May 1 when its two vacations programs combine under a single program. The new American Airlines Vacations brings together the best features of US Airways Vacations and American’s program – including exclusive pricing; incentives for travel agents; superior customer service and access to the best products anywhere the world’s largest airline operates.

"We have brought together the features that customers, travel agents and vendors value most to develop the premier airline vacations program,” said Michael Schmeltzer, president of American Airlines Vacations. “We’re excited for everything our merged program has to offer for customers wishing to travel to more than 400 worldwide destinations.”

For the Dominican Republic, this means that American now has more packages available to key leisure destinations, like Punta Cana, than any other airline program. American began serving Dominican Republic in 1975 and now operates nearly 150 weekly flights to five destinations, including La Romana, Puerto Plata, Punta Cana, Santiago and Santo Domingo

The expansion of American Airlines Vacations provides great benefits for travel agents including the best pricing on packages; competitive commissions; flexible bulk ticketing policies and travel agent-only flexibility on hold policies and deposits.

Since American and US Airways merged in December 2013, the airline has been making steady integration progress, including inducting US Airways into the oneworld alliance, merging separate frequent flyer programs into the single AAdvantage program and receiving a single operating certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration.
