Telecom Altice to invest US$133.2M in Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- Grupo Altice, which owns the telecoms Orange and Tricom, aims to grow in the Dominican Republic by bringing new technologies to help narrow the digital gap and plans to invest RD$6.0 billion (US$133.2 million) this year.

Interviewed by newspaper Listin, Altice CEO Abdelhakim Boubazine said its projects aim to reach remote and forgotten places, for which the group will invest RD$6.0 billion each year to bolster the mobile network over the next three years.

He said the group, based in Luxembourg will introduce leading edge technologies and expand its fixed network, with a projection to attract around 200,000 new households each year.

"Our vision is to grow and make long-term investments," said Boubazine, adding that Altice aims to country a "hub" telecom for the entire region, for which it could continue to buy out other companies.
