Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s agro exports have grown by more than US$1.2 billion during president Danilo Medina’s administration, as the result of policies and compliance of commitments with the sector made four years ago.
Dominican Agribusiness Board (JAD) director Osmar Benitez provided the figure during a visit to Medina in the National Palace on Friday, accompanied by other executives.
He said thanks to Medina’s instructions the Government has created an instrument to financially support exports.
"The President instructed the Reservas bank to support productive sectors with export potential and yesterday we witnessed that he accompanied the Reservas’ administrator to officially launch the program, "Prosper."
He said the funding mechanisms have allocated RD$440 million for the banana sector; RD$200 million for greenhouse vegetables; RD$200 million for Chinese vegetables and opened a RD$210 million line of credit for the processed meat sector, to benefit small and medium manufacturers.
