Santo Domingo.- Amid widespread criticism of the Colonial City Tourism Development Program, the official in charge says 85% of the rebuilt streets are ready and functioning, reports progress in other infrastructure work, as well as spurring new investments, including 320 new businesses.
Program coordinator Maribel Villalona said the finished streets Arzobispo Meriño, Isabel la Catolica, Restauracion, Emiliano Tejera, Padre Billini and Arzobispo Portes form part of the program’s first stage.
Quoted by eldia.com.do, the official said a census of Colonial Zone businesses found that new ones are stimulating the economy in Santo Domingo’s historic center.
She said the sections in the final phase figure a span of Isabel la Catolica (between Padre Billini and Restauracion), Las Mercedes (between Isabel la Catolica and Hostos) and Luperon (between Arzobispo Meriño and Isabel), adding that 120 facades have been selected for restoration.
