Danilo Medina and Leonel Fernandez could meet next week

Santo Domingo.– PresidentDanilo Medina and former president Leonel Fernandez, current president of the rulingDominican Liberation Party (PLD), could meet next week to agree on theConstitutional reform.

According to reports, themeeting between the two leaders would take place on Wednesday, however, placeand time are unknown. The encounter would occur against the resistance fromlawmakers who follow Fernandez and do not want to abide by the decision of thePolitical Committee of amending the Constitution to make way for a possible reelectionof the current head of state.

The situation has caused amomentary crisis in the PLD at the legislative level, and made 15 senators and50 deputies sign and submit a document to the delegates of the PoliticalCommittee where they expressed their opposition to restore presidentialreelection.
