Reformist candidate asks for reduction in fuel taxes

Puerto Plata, DR.– Veteran politico Federico Antun Batlle (Quique), the presidential candidate for the Social Christian Reformist Party (PRSC), called for a reasonable reduction in fuel taxes in order to help alleviate the economic situation of Dominican families, especially the most vulnerable sectors of society.

Antun said it is necessary to take actions to reduce fuel prices, starting with a review of the Hydrocarbons Law 112-00 and 495 of ad-valorem "because these taxes are one of the heaviest elements in determining the selling price of fuel."

He added that the tax being applied to fuels, as the Selective Consumption Tax, increased the prices of gasoline and other petroleum products above 40 percent, which affects public transport fares and food, mainly agricultural products.
