Groups again announce strike to demand mayor resign

San Francisco de Macoris, Dominican Republic.- Several organizations on Monday announced a 72-hour strike June 23 to 25 to demand that ruling party (PLD) mayor Felix Rodriguez resign, in connection with a fraud of more than RD$400 million.

The protest was announced while the prosecution appealed the ruling acquitting Rodriguez handed down by the Santo Domingo Province Instruction Court on March 27.

The organizations said various marches, pickets and meetings will be held as warm-ups leading to the strike, the second against the mayor thus far this year.
