One Dominican shot dead as UK, US agents net major haul

Santo Domingo.- National Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) spokesman Dario Medrano said Thursday that a Dominican killed in a shootout with British agents early Tuesday forms part of a drug cartel that plies South America-US route.

The Dominican whose name wasn’t disclosed was shot and killed as he with a group on a speedboat approached the Caribbean island Tortola with a load of 16 bales of cocaine between 700 and 1000 kilos.

Among those arrested figure Venezuelans Oidier Stevenson Triana Gomez, 23, and Julio Leonard Minaya Tejada, 21.

British and US antinarcotics agents had tracked the boat with the drug from South America since it left Saint Marteen.

Medrano said the cartel smuggles the drug from South America along the east of the Lesser Antilles, to reach the US, presumably Puerto Rico.
