Santo Domingo.- Interior and Police minister Jose Ramon Fadul on Thursday said hundreds of Haitians cannot get residency documents because many business leaders who hire them as laborers don’t cooperate so they can register in the National Plan to Regularize Foreigners.
He said there are employers who even deny foreign workers a letter stating they’re employed and sometimes denied them time off for them to go to regularization centers.
The official said he’s met with builders and farm owners several times to urge them to collaborate with their workers, so when deportations start "they don’t come with the argument that construction and domestic production will fall due to lack of manpower."
He acknowledged that despite his agency’s facilities many Haitians still face difficulties in completing their files because of “socioeconomic problems.”
Fadul, interviewed on Color Vision Channel 9, reiterated that the Regularization Plan ends June 16 and expects to receive around 280,000 applications for the various programs to benefit undocumented foreigners.
