Dominican cheeses head to Russia ‘this year’

Santo Domingo.- National Dairy Industry Council (Conaleche) director Arnaldo Gomez on Wednesday said the regulations and logistics are being created so Dominican companies to start pasteurized chees exports to Russia this year.

Gomez, who made the announcement after a meeting with Livestock Agency officials, Dairy Producers (Adoprolad) representatives and Russian Chamber of Commerce president Virginia Velasquez, said the Russian company Panorama wants all the quality cheese the country can produce for export. "The export would be by air taking advantage of flights arriving from Russia to Punta Cana Airport. We’re talking about 16-18 flights in low season."

Velazquez said the Russian market offers a great opportunity to expand local cheese exports, especially since more than 200,000 Russian tourists who visit each year have become Dominican Republic’s main promoters of its country brand.
