Govt. says construction advances in the capital’s major works

Santo Domingo.- The Public Works Ministry advances construction on two of 21 major road works, designed to decongest the city’s main thoroughfares.

The Santo Domingo beltway being built at a cost of US$340 million is currently in its second span, from the Duarte Highway to the Villa Mella subdivision, with a 12 kilometers paved to the community El Higuero, near the International Airport of the same name.

Contractors Odebrecht and Estrella continue excavations for an underpass at the busy corner of Privada and 27 de Febrero avenues, while work also advances on the beltway’s several bridges and sidewalks, access routes to adjacent communities as well as construction of the first toll plaza.

Public Works announced June 30 as the date to inaugurate the second span of around 16 kilometers, while the third section from Villa Mella to La Victoria is set for year end.

The beltway’s fourth and last section, from La Victoria to Samana Highway still has no completion date.

Underpass

Public Works said construction on the 27 de Febrero-Privada underpass is on schedule and reiterated that it will be concluded at year end. The 464 meter-long structure started in March with an announced cost of US$15 million features 4 lanes, 3.30 meters wide each and 3 inch-thick asphalt.
