Tourism official highligts Dominican Republic’s rapid visitor growth

Santo Domingo.– Leisure travel to the Dominican Republic is booming, according to National Hotels Association (ASONAHORES) president Simon Suarez.

The top tourism official said that tourist arrivals in the country by air grew by 30.7 percent between 2010 and 2014, representing more than one million visitors.

The average annual increase of six percent exceeded the average predicted for the world and Caribbean tourism sectors, despite the stormy economic situation that impacted Europe and the United States.

The growth has continued in 2015, with a 5.4 percent increase in international air arrivals between January and March compared with the same period in 2014. Suarez recognized the government investment in infrastructure and marketing, as well as private investment in hospitality projects, as key factors to tourism growth.
