Journalists’ guild to push tourism for the poor

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Tourism Press Association (ADOMPRETUR) president Jose Luis Chavez on Thursday said they’ll be involved in all initiatives which promote the country’s social tourism, for workers and low income citizens to enjoy the hospitality industry.

He said the organization will seek a multi-sector agreement to develop the initiative.

Chavez spoke at the First Social, Solidarity and Sustainable Tourism Congress in the National Botanic Garden, with the participation of foreign experts and representatives from several local organizations.

He said social tourism will be in the agenda of ADOMPRETUR’s new management team. "To this end we’ve reached an agreement with the writer and historic leader of Latin America’s labor unions, José Gómez Cerda, to be our advisor on social tourism."

Chavez said the First International Conference on Sustainable Social and Solidarity Tourism in the Dominican Republic takes place May 21 to 22, hosted by the Bureau of Social and Solidarity Tourism (TURISSOL), an agency of the unions grouped in the CAASC.
