Dominican city reels from 17th murder in 2 months

Moca, Dominican Republic.- Unidentified assailants on Sunday gunned down a man from an SUV in the sector La Española in north-central Espaillat province, the 17th murder in less than two months, in a spate of violence that prompted a visit by National Police chief Manuel Castro

The victim was identified as Argenis Jose Camacho, with no one detained by authorities thus far.

Castro visited Moca last Friday to speak with various community leaders concerned with the surprising crime wave, which has led to seven commanders being relieved of duty since January on failure to put a halt to the spate of violent deaths.
