Truck-bus collision in eastern Dominican Republic kills 13

Santo Domingo.- Thirteen people were killed and 24 others injured when a truck and a bus full of passengers collided near Monte Plata (east) on the Santo Domingo-Samaná highway around 4:30pm Thursday.

The bus was headed to Santo Domingo from Las Terrenas, Samaná province, home to most of the victims, said Eliecer Cruz, head of the Monte Plata provincial hospital, where the injured underwent triage. Of those hurt 15 were taken to three hospitals in Greater Santo Domingo

The deceased were identfied as Freddy Valdez Jiménez, Fiordaliza Alcántara, Marino Rodríguez Jáquez, Águeda Rodríguez, Vicente Frías, María Reyes, Grasiela Martínez, Cismeli Cepeda Bonilla, Darling Javier Sufrond, Ana Rosa Fermín, Cristian Daniel Fermín, Rosa Mercedes Ramón and a woman yet to identify.

First responders arrived at the crash site where the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (AMET) reported that most victims were on a Mitsubishi bus that collided head-on with an Isuzu truck, white plate.

Among the those hurt figure Marleni Acevedo, Jennifer Montero, Argenis Rafael García, Jacqueline Valdez, Auri Calcaño, Daniel Mullier, Isaura Peña, Rosaura Padilla, Indhira Cépeda, César Mieses, Aracelis Reyes, José Peña, Jairo Duarte Batista, Mariel Lila, Amada Kelly, Gina Tiriel and Jean Casimily Sima.

Also Dominga Sánchez, Julieta Montero Cipión, Jankeuris Valdez, Evel Guzmán Bello, Alexander Pourier Jiménez (truck driver), Dámaso Sarmiento Montilla and Ariel Lora Vázquez.
