Medina’s fear of Dominican media unfounded

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Newspapers Association (SDD) president Persio Maldonado on Monday said president Danilo Medina’s silence and refusal to speak with journalists stems from a false belief that the media jeopardizes the government.

The also editor-in-chief of outlet El Nuevo Diario warned that the media have to advocate for more public policies, conduct wider investigations and solve the problem of the low wages paid to journalists.

He said the president’s reluctant to speak denies the media the possibility of dealing with the issues which affect the country. “What we see is that we have to question the democracy in the parties."
