Showers, flash flood alerts herald start of hurricane season

Santo Domingo.- The National Weather Office (Onamet) reminded the population that the Atlantic hurricane season starts today Monday, with storm formations forecasted to be below average than previous years.

It said the moderate to heavy showers will continue from a trough over the Windward Chanel and issued flash flooding alerts for La Vega, Santiago, Montecristi and Puerto Plata provinces.

“The rains will continue tomorrow with expected downpours, thunderstorms and isolated gusts of wind in the afternoon until the early night hours to the North, Northeast, Southeast, Central Mountains and border zone," says the weather report, adding that temperature will be range from a high of 32 Celsius and low of 22 degrees.
