Dominicans beat Canadians in NORCECA Women’s Final Four

Havana.– Dominican Republic defeated Canada 3-1 (25-20, 17-25, 25-19, and 25-22) to claim their first victory despite the resistance showed by the opponents in the opening match of the NORCECA Women’s Final Four Champions Cup at the Sports City Coliseum of Havana.

The North Americans gave the surprise by taking away the second set even though they battled since the beginning to destabilize the Dominicans fifth at the World Championship in 2014.

The tournament brings together the top four teams in the ranking of NORCECA, with the absence of the leader, United States, which does not need to attend this contest as they have already secured their presence in the World Cup in Japan next September.

Dominicans will face Cubans on Sunday. Cubans were defeated by Puerto Rico defeated 3-1 in the second match of the NORCECA Women’s Final Four Champions Cup. Only two tickets are available for the World Cup in Japan which will be the first Olympic Qualifier for Rio de Janeiro 2016.
