Of 65,000 IDs ready, foreigners retrieve just 7,000

Santo Domingo.- Interior and Police minister Jose Ramon Fadul pm Tuesday complained of the low number of foreigners who´ve come to retrieve their ID cards after applying the government program to regularize foreigners.

"The people don’t come to withdraw their documents; even for that there’s difficulty, " Fadul said, noting that the government has made every effort to encourage people to go and get their IDs.

Of a total 65,000 documents ready to be handed over, only a little more than 7,000 have been retrieved, the official said, adding that some 46,000 stamped passports await their owners.

According to the official, 96 000 people registered for the program with their passport.
