Planting of crops host insect pest banned nationwide

Santo Domingo. – The plangent of melons, eggplant,cucumber, watermelon, okra, peppers, pumpkins, cotton, tobacco, beans, tomatoesand several other crops know to host whiteflies ((Bemisia tabaci) have been bannedacross the country starting today Wednesday.

Agriculture minister Angel Estevez made the announcement todayand urged growers and agribusinesses full compliance with resolution whichestablishes the quarantine period.

The official affirmed that Agriculture guarantees all necessaryresources and logistics for implement the measure. “The technology protocolthat implements Agriculture against the whitefly has been very beneficial in protectingthe plant health of those agricultural items, to comply with the requirements ofmarkets.”
