Santo Domingo.- Consumerprotection agency (Proconsumidor) director Altagracia Paulino on Wednesday proposedan alliance to bolster the institutions to increase consumer confidence and strengthenthe market.
Speaking at the AmericanChamber of Commerce´s monthly luncheon the official noted progress in thecountry’s consumer protection citing enforcement of Law 358-05 which she affirmsled to a new agency and vision of what´s best for the market.
"We must work everyday so both consumers and providers understand that they are strategic allieswhose relationship applies the golden rule that if it´s not good for me it mustn’tbe for others," the official said
Paulino said when shebecame director about six years ago she found "a society where the rightsof consumers were brutally violated" with false advertising as a systemicpractice.
She said badpractices were found in almost all sectors, "and we had to intervene toenforce the law on the understanding that the laws are to be complied and not violated."
