Ex president says Medina rewards corruption

Santo Domingo.-Former president Hipolito Mejia on Thursday slammed president Danilo Medina forin his view, rewarding corruption forfailure to charge officials accused of corruption.

"Here theft andcorruption is being rewarded, unfortunately Danilo has awarded theft andcorruption, it´s a fact that he has rewarded it," Mejia said at the "Thecountry we want" awards held in the Jose Francisco Peña Gomez Institute.

The president from2000 to 2004 cited yesterday´s announcement by the National Police that nine officersincluding a colonel linked to the theft of370,000 euros from a woman who came to the country via Las Americas Airport,were forcibly retired but not charged.
