Don’t halt deportations, urges Cardinal

Santo Domingo.-Speaking at Las Américas International Airport, Cardinal Nicolás de Jesús López Rodríguez stated that the Dominican immigration authoritiesshould not stop the repatriation of Haitians and other foreigners livingillegally in the country.

LópezRodríguez, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Santo Domingo, said that theDominican Republic had the same right as other nations to deport foreigners, addingthat these repatriations should have started a long time ago.

TheCardinal also expressed his agreement with a wage raise for both public and privatesector employees but said that the country’s present economic situation had tobe taken into consideration first.

Nicolásde Jesús Cardenal López Rodríguez made his declarations as a guest at the PawaDominicana flight launch event, where he blessed the installations and aircraftat Las Américas Airport.
