Dominicans want a direct hit from TS Danny

Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) on Sundayissued alerts from Cabo Engaño in the east along the southern and northerncoasts, as Tropical Storm Danny approaches from Puerto Rico.

The storm´s potentialrains are welcomed across the country, which suffers from a drought of morethan eight months.

Emergency OperationsCenter Juan Manuel Mendez said the alert was issued because the storm isexpected to impact the easternmost point of the country within 72 hours.

As of 8 a.m. EDT Monday, Danny became a tropicaldepression and was located around 20 miles south of Guadeloupe.

Stronger wind shear and drier air continues to forceDanny to weaken from the Category 3/major hurricane status it achieved onFriday.
