Students get food poisoning

Santo Domingo.- At least 90 studentsfrom several schools in the municipality of Luperon in the province of PuertoPlata suffered food poisoning yesterday.

A number of teachers and administrative staff were also affected and the regional public healthauthorities put the total at 101.

They began to experience symptoms ofvomiting, diarrhea, headaches and convulsions after eating rice, codfish andpigeon peas (guandules) and were taken to the hospitals in Luperon and LaIsabela. Most were released after being examined and receiving treatment, whileothers remain under observation.

The authorities say they will beconducting an investigation.

The schools are located in thecommunities of Belloso, El Higo and Los Arquies.
