Nationwide agriculture survey underway

Santo Domingo.- AgricultureMinister Ángel Estévez and the National Statistics Office (ONE), with supportfrom the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and theEuropean Union, have announced the start of the second phase of the 2015National Preliminary Survey on Agriculture and Livestock .

This statistical exercise is aimed atcollecting basic information about agricultural and livestock production units,as well as of the producers themselves, as a basis for the organization,implementation and information gathering of the 8th Agricultural andLivestock Census.

The first phase of the preliminary survey tookplace in May and covered 310 urban locations. It listed the productive unitsand the producers based on the outskirts of the country’s cities.

The second phase, which is starting now, will be more extensive as it will cover all the country’s rural areas and will lastfor four weeks, beginning August 24 and scheduled to end on September 19.

During the launch of the preliminaryAgricultural and Livestock survey, the Minister of Agriculture, Ángel Estévez, highlightedthat there would be a “before and after” comparison after the completion ofthis preliminary survey.
