Israel’s debt with Dominicans unpayable: Nobel laureate

Santo Domingo.- PresidentDanilo Medina met in the National Palace Wednesday with Nobel Chemistry Prizelaureate, Israeli Daniel Shechtman, to strengthen ties between the two nations.

After the meetingShechtman thanked Medina for Dominican Republic´s welcoming Jewish refugees duringWorld War II. "There were many Jews during the Second World War which othercountries wouldn’t receive.”

The Nobel laureate inChemistry in 2011said his country has an unpayable debt to the Caribbean nationfor that action.

He said he invitedMedina to Israel, adding that they discussed high technology, the biotechnologyand pharmaceutical industries among other issues, and possible ties between inIsrael and Dominican universities.
