Hurler becomes 653rd Dominican in major leagues

Santo Domingo.- PitcherFrancelis Montas debuted in the majors Wednesday and became the 653rd Dominican in major league rosters. He´salso the first player of Santo Domingo´s Leones to make their first appearance inMajor League Baseball this season.

"Frankie"pitched the 8th inning for the Chicago White Sox, which lost to theMinnesota Twins 3 to 0.

The right-handerretired the three batters he faced, starting with striking out fellow DominicanMiguel Angel Sano.

Montas was brought upfrom the minor leagues on Tuesday, as part of the late-season expansion of theteam rosters from 25 40 players.

His record was 5-5 with2.97 ERA in 23 starts for the White Sox Double A Birmigham Barons, of theSoutheastern League.
