Dominican capital preps to host major regional gatherings

Santo Domingo.- The ForeignAffairs Ministry on Thursday headed a meeting with a high-level commissionwhich aims to include the Santo Domingo City Council in the staging of the 46thannual meeting of the Organization of American States (OAS), the summit ofCELAC – EU Foreign Ministers, and the Summit of the Economic Community of LatinAmerican and Caribbean States (CELAC), to be held in the country next year.

Representatives from 34member nations will attend the OAS conclave; 33 presidents and heads of States areexpected to attend the CELAC summit, while some 60 delegations will attend the EU-CELACMeeting of Foreign Ministers.

Dominican Republicwill assume the CELAC Pro Tempore Presidency starting January.

Foreign ministerAndrés Navarro stressed the Government´s “rigorous strategy to strengthen tieswith nations considered key in the process for Dominican Republic´s development.”
