Tropical Storm Ida poses no threat to land

Miami.– Tropical Storm Ida formed Friday night in the central Atlantic Ocean, over 1,000 miles east of the Lesser Antilles. According to the U.S. National Hurricane Center forecast, Ida is expected to move to the northwest across the Atlantic, slowly intensifying to near hurricane strength by the middle of the week.

The official forecast track shows the storm becoming nearly stationary by the middle of the week, but with no threats to land.

Ida was formerly known as Tropical Depression Ten on Friday. It is the ninth named storm of the 2015 Atlantic season.

Tropical Depression Nine is expected to fall apart this weekend, well out in the central Atlantic, bringing no impacts to land, whereas an area of low pressure near the east coast of Florida has the potential to develop over the next week as it moves to the northeast.
