Dominican capital awakes to unusual smog

Santo Domingo.- The Dominicancapital of Santo Domingo awoke Monday to an unusually dense smog, reportedlyfrom a fire at the Duquesa landfill, according to the National Weather Office(Onamet).

"Confirmed. Airpollution in Santo Domingo is (from) a fire at the Duquesa landfill. Densesmoke covers the city " tweeted Onamet meteorologist JeanSuriel.

Suriel warned ofpossible respiratory problems from the smog seen as far south as Mirador Park.
