Dominican Catholics back Evangelists´ right to shun candidates

Santo Domingo.- Santiagoarchdiocese archbishop Freddy A. de Jesus Breton on Tuesday said evangelicalprelates have every right to guide their flock on which candidates they shouldvote for in the May 16 elections, especially if they hold Christianity´s principlesand values.

The bishop´s responsewas in reference to the Dominican Evangelical Unity Council´s (Codue) warning thatit will read in their churches a list with the candidates for the presidency, Congressand municipalities who support abortion and same sex marriage.

He said the evangelistsshould also include in their list of objectionable politicians those who stealtaxpayers´ money, those who don’t manage a life with family as God intended, orthe promiscuous.

"I think that it wouldthen be a more complete list," Breton said, quoted by the CorripioCommunications Group. He stressed that a minimum moral code should be required forcandidates.

Earlier this week Coduepresident Fidel Lorenzo Meran announced a list of candidates who supportabortion and same sex marriage, to be read in churches for parishioners not to votefor them.
