State University students protest violently against professor’s strike

Santo Domingo.- Santo Domingo StateUniversity (UASD) students are staging a violent protest since Thursday morning,torching tires and hurling stones and trash at various campus entrances.

The students demand the halt tothe walkout since Wednesday by professors and for teaching to be restored.

Anti-riot police try to disperse theprotesters launching tear gas.

UASD University professorsgrouped in Faprouasd halted classes to demand several benefits, including a 40%wage increase.

The strike affects more than200,000 students in all of the UASD campuses nationwide.
