Dominican president denies use of public funds for campaign

Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina, who is running for re-election, said today there is no need to use the resources of the State for his campaing for his "ally is the Dominican people."

The president responded that way to complaints submitted to the Central Electoral Board (JCE) by representatives of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), Alianza Pais and Fuerza Nacional Progresista, who assured that public officers have made use of public funds to promote Medina’s electoral campaign.

"I do not want anyone to use State resources to support our candidacy," he said in respond to the affirmation made by the PRM that only in January RD$480 million were used on advertising.

Medina spoke during a ceremony where he was proclaimed as the presidential candidate for the Green Socialist Party (PASOVE).
