Dominican Republic kicks off Caribbean baseball with Cuba debut

Santo Domingo.- The Caribbean Baseball Series, often calledthe Winter Baseball Championship, starts Monday with Santo Domingo’s Leones, wonthe local tournament crown, and go after their fifth title, as the favorites.

In the Series also compete Mexico champions Venados ofMazatlan, Tigres of Aragua (Venezuela) and Cangrejeros of Santurce, PuertoRico.

Competing for the first time and as guests will be Ciego deAvila, from Cuba, winners of that country’s 2015 winter baseball season.

Puerto Rico and Venezuela will kick off the series at 3pmlocal time (1500 GMT), while the Dominicans play against Mexico at 8pm localtime (20:00 GMT).
