Construction starts for Santo Domingo’s first Bike Circuit

Santo Domingo.- National District mayor Roberto Salcedo on Thursdaybroke ground for construction of the of the first stage of the Bike Circuit projectalong the around 2-kilometer long median on Churchill Av., in the financialcenter.

Salcedo said the initiative promotes safe cycling and protectsthe environment, and contributes to the citizens’ health and the economy.

He said the city council works on the project’s topics of publiceducation, establishing bike lanes and install a public bicycle system to link theroutes with mass transit.

The first circuit will be eight kilometers long and willrun from the Botanical Garden to the Centro de los Heroes (La Feria), throughmore than 12 shopping malls, three Santo Domingo Metro stations and fouruniversities.

Also present in the inaugural were Justice ministerFrancisco Dominguez and initiative promoter and journalist José Rafael Sosa,among others.
