The country’s road grid is ‘5th best’ in theAmericas
Santo Domingo.- Public Works minister Gonzalo Castillo on Thursdaysaid the country can boast progress on its road grid over the past 25 years.
He said the Dominican Republic has achieved a high qualityand fairly expansive road network during that period, both in the major citiesof Santo Domingo and Santiago and on the roads between all provinces as well.
Castillo said the growth placed the Dominican Republic asthe fifth country with the best roads throughout the Americas last year. He saidthe country is expected to reach fourth next year, with the projects started duringthe last 18 months.
"Among the roads we are finishing figure the Azua Beltwaywhich we expect to conclude by August this year; the Bani Beltway, which isbeing tendered; the Barahona Beltway, which allows going around Barahona and continueon to the coast at Enriquillo and Pedernales without having to enter the town,”the official said.
“As you know we have already finished the beltways at Santiago,San Pedro and La Romana, and section one and section two of the Santo DomingoBeltway," Castillo said, interviewed on NCDN, channel 37.
